4. Fifi and the Mystery of the Floating Red Balloon

It was a bright, breezy afternoon in Meadowville. Fifi was sitting by the stream, sketching flowers in her notebook when something interesting caught her eye—a red balloon bobbing in the sky.

"Hmm," she murmured. "Where did that come from?"

The balloon dropped, dropped lower…and settled gently in the stream.

Just then, Aurora ran up and flicked her tail. "Oh, look! A balloon!"

Fifi tapped her pencil against her chin. "But who does it belong to? Balloons don't usually float on their own…"
And just like that, another mystery began.

The friends hurried to the red balloon. A small tag tied to a string, fluttering in the wind, awaited them.

Fifi read it aloud:

"To Grandma—Happy Birthday! From Felix 🐭"
Aurora's eyes widened. "This must be Felix, the little dormouse who lives by the willow! He's only just learned to write."

"And that balloon was a birthday surprise," Fifi guessed. "But if it flies away, he'll be devastated!"

They crossed the meadow to the willow with the balloon in tow.

Under the drooping branches, they found Felix sitting on a log, his whiskers drooping and tears in his eyes.

"My balloon flew away," he sobbed. "It was supposed to be for Grandma's birthday."

Aurora gently put her paw on his shoulder. "We found it, Felix. It was flying over the meadow, but it's safe now."

Fifi handed him the string. "And just right for the party!"

Felix beamed. "Thank you! I thought all was lost."

Later that day, Fifi and Aurora were invited to their grandmother's birthday tea party. The table was filled with seed cakes, honey cookies, and flower tea.

When Felix gave the balloon to his grandmother, her eyes filled with tears of joy.

"Oh, my sweet boy! What a wonderful surprise," she said.

And Fifi smiled, knowing that the smallest secret makes the most significant difference in someone's day.
